If we want to answer the question why we have been engaged in the concept of a creative city for more than three years and why Pilsen so fervently wants to be awarded the title of European Capital of Culture, we must move away from purely local feelings and interests and we must delve deeper into what has shaped the Czech nation and its complex mentality, because without understanding and accepting the past we can hardly create a vision of the future. A vision which needs a more complicated, broader discussion about a European vision of culture and its reach into all areas of a life in society.

The year 2015 was as though a theatre spot- light was pointed at the cultural life in Pilsen. It revealed its hidden corners, it lifted the veil from the everyday lives of Pilsen residents. We were able to explore the Pilsen Region and its long-forgotten secrets. Pilsen really did open up to its neighbours and to other impulses from abroad.
We all witnessed explosions of creativity. It is now up to us what we take away from 2015 and how we allow ourselves to be inspired. The things that we have created need constant care.
To all those who try to cultivate themselves and their surroundings, who believe and act, I wish strength, many good ideas and reliable colleagues.
